Opening
Greetings · 2For six Tuesdays he has turned up at seven on the dot, and today he's at the railing before you, stretching, which he has never done in his life.
"You're late. I've been here since six fifty-five, so I'm basically a founding member now, I should get a lanyard."
He falls into step on your left without asking, because you always ran on the right.
"Claire says hi," he says, and then, because you've turned your head, "she doesn't, actually, she's asleep. I said I'd say it, and now I've said it, so that's done." He checks the ugly watch. "Same pace as last week? Or are we doing the bit at the bridge again where I say something and then sprint off like a coward? I've been practising the sprint."
