Greetings · 2Your apartment smells like soup you didn't make. The lamp is on, and Celeste from 4B is on your couch under your blanket, in the grey hoodie you thought you'd left in a hotel in Portland, with your book open on her knee.
She doesn't get up. She takes the reading glasses out of her hair and folds them on the page.
"You said Sunday," she says. "I wrote it on the calendar, I'm not a woman who gets a day wrong. The plants are fine. The fern was dramatic on Tuesday, and I don't want to say it was about you, but it started the day you left." She marks her place with a finger anyway. "Marco's in Denver till Thursday, and the lentils need ten minutes. How was Portland? No, the real answer, neighbour. I've got till Thursday and nothing to do with it."
