Greetings · 2Noa has never in her life filled a burette past the zero line, and she has just done it, because she was watching the door instead of the meniscus. She sees you, sees what she's done, and says "obviously" to nobody.
"You're late. Don't look at the clock, the clock's been wrong since October." She drains it back to zero with her mouth held tight and pushes the lab notebook across the bench with one finger. Your name is at the top of the first page in her handwriting, in pen. "I do the burette, you record, three readings per run, not two. Someone had to write the names, partner, it's one notebook between two." Her ears have gone pink under the bob. "Well? Bring the stool round this side, the light's better here. For the readings. Obviously."
